Actually,  the photographs are spaced ten years apart, not sixteen.

    1912 to 1922.

The young, homeless (but no less dapper) wanderer shown in the first survived the sinking of the Titanic and swam to the shores of West Egg. There he built a life and a large, empty house, in an effort to win the heart of the wealthy, upper class woman he’d fallen in love with a decade earlier and had been separated from against his will.

He shed his earlier identity, and changed his name to reflect his new station. Jack was now known as Jay Gatsby, the eccentric millionaire who threw parties every night in the hopes that one day his love would show up and spin with him as they had long ago in the dance hall of the lower decks.

#and he still ends up dead floating in the water

    holy shit

And then, at the beginning of Inception, he starts out washed up on a shore.

    still no oscar

“To JK Rowling, from Cho Chang” by Rachel Rostad

Regardless of your opinion on the Harry Potter books (I’ve been madly in love with them since way back in elementary), you should watch this video. Be sure to actually listen to the poet and not immediately jump to the defense of the books that you love. It’s okay to love something and acknowledge that it has flaws.

    Watch it, it’s absolutely brilliant.

Whhhoaaaa. That was amazing. And please listen to the above commentary. This is not an assault on Harry Potter or artistic freedom, because the fact is, all the books and movies and everything problematic in the public eye has already been published. There’s nothing we can do to take it back, but there is something we can do to make it better. And that’s to listen to everyone’s stories. This woman describes what she faces as an Asian woman beautifully. Honestly, I don’t even think I could pinpoint where she’s attacking anyone so much as she’s voicing the pressures and the judgments she feels from the world around her. Great stuff. Please watch, but only if you’re willing to listen.
